Does the way I interact with people today really matter? It’s a question worth asking.
Another busy day is here. You have plenty to accomplish. Work has a list of tasks waiting for you, you need to make a couple of calls on your lunch break, and there are probably more things on your calendar than you’d like to admit.
Everyone else is busy too, so, do those brief interactions you have with people really make a difference? The Bible says they do.
Paul gives us this simple instruction in 1 Thessalonians 5:11:
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.”
Notice those words: encourage one another and build each other up. This can happen in the middle of an ordinary day.
It might be…
- A kind word to a coworker who is having a difficult morning.
- A thoughtful text to a friend who needs encouragement.
- A conversation where you take a few minutes to really listen.
- A simple act of kindness for someone who wasn’t expecting it.
These moments may seem small, especially when we are rushing from one thing to the next, but we shouldn’t underestimate the impact they can have.
- You may never know how much your words encouraged someone who was struggling.
- You may never hear how your example inspired another believer to keep going.
- You may never realize that the five minutes you spent listening were exactly what someone needed that day.
God can use ordinary moments in extraordinary ways, so as you go through today, don’t assume your interactions don’t matter.
- Smile.
- Encourage someone.
- Listen.
- Offer a helping hand.
- Speak a kind word.
- Look for an opportunity to build someone up.
You may think you are simply getting through another busy day, but God may be using you to make someone else’s day a little brighter.
Your interactions matter. Your words matter. Your example matters.
Dwell on that today as you go about your day.
Who knows? God may have someone waiting for the encouragement only you can give.
