Have you ever felt like you needed to be better before you could really matter to God? Maybe you thought you needed to pray more, serve more, make fewer mistakes, or finally get your life together. Perhaps you’ve looked at your past and wondered, “How could God really value someone like me?” If so, here’s the beautiful thing about grace: God’s love for us has never been based on our performance.
Ephesians 2:4–5 says, “But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.”
Notice where we were when God loved us.
- We weren’t at our best.
- We weren’t checking all the right boxes.
- We weren’t earning God’s approval.
Yet God loved us anyway.
Friends, that’s grace. Grace means God’s mercy meets us where we are, not where we think we need to be. He doesn’t wait for us to become worthy before he offers his love. He gives it freely.
We often measure our value by what we accomplish. We look at our successes and failures, our strengths and weaknesses, our good days and bad days. We can even carry the mistaken idea that if we do enough good things, we will somehow become more valuable to God.
However, grace tells us something completely different. Your value isn’t something you earn. It’s something God has already given you.
The God who created you loved you when you had nothing to offer him. His mercy reached you at your lowest point, and through Christ, he gave you new life. You don’t have to spend your life trying to prove that you are worthy of love. God has already declared you as priceless! You can live from the assurance that you are already deeply loved.
So today, stop measuring your value by your performance. Stop keeping score. Stop believing your worst mistake gets the final word about who you are.
God’s grace has the final word. He has said you are priceless, so rest in His grace today.
