No one else has ever lived your life. No one has experienced your combination of joys and disappointments, opportunities and setbacks, victories and failures. No one has walked your exact path. God didn’t place you in this moment by accident. He placed you here on purpose.

Moses understood that truth, even if he couldn’t see it while he was living it.

When we read Moses’ story, we can clearly see how God was preparing him long before the burning bush interaction. Growing up in Pharaoh’s palace gave Moses an understanding of Egyptian culture and leadership. Forty years of tending sheep in the wilderness taught him patience, humility, and how to guide a flock through the desert. What may have seemed like unrelated chapters were actually God’s preparation for the assignment ahead.

Philippians 1:6 reminds us that God always finishes what he starts. The good work he began in Moses didn’t happen overnight. It unfolded one season at a time until God accomplished his purpose through Moses.

The same is true for us. God has uniquely created each of us and placed us in a specific time, family, community, workplace, and season of history. None of it is random.

The Psalmist celebrated God’s intentional design:

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb… All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:13-16).

God also declared:

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future'” (Jeremiah 29:11).

And when Esther questioned her place in history, Mordecai reminded her that she had come to the kingdom “for such a time as this.”

Take a moment to look back over your own biography. The experiences you once questioned may have been God’s preparation. The doors that opened, disappointments you endured, lessons you learned, and even the seasons of waiting have all shaped the person you are today. You have a once-in-history life. There has never been another person exactly like you, living in this exact moment, with your gifts, your experiences, and your opportunities to serve Christ. God is still writing your story, and he is still completing the good work he began in you.

So don’t compare your journey to someone else’s. Instead, trust the author of your story. The God who prepared Moses is preparing you, and he will faithfully complete the work he has begun. You are not here by accident. You are God’s person, in God’s place, at God’s time, for God’s purpose.
