Have you ever wondered if God sees what you’re going through? Maybe you’ve prayed about the same situation for months or even years, but nothing seems to change. The problem remains. The burden gets heavier. Somewhere along the way, a quiet question begins to creep into your mind: Does God really see me?

You’re not alone in these thoughts. Many people have asked the same question, and the Bible provides an encouraging answer.

In Exodus 3:16, God tells Moses, “Now go and call together all the elders of Israel. Tell them, ‘The Lord, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—has appeared to me. He told me, “I have been watching closely, and I am indeed concerned about you. I have seen how the Egyptians are treating you.”

This statement from God comes after a long period of silence. For generations, Israel had been enslaved by Egypt. They were treated harshly, and they cried out to God. Day after day, it was the same, and it seemed as if God had gone silent. No answer; no help.

Sound familiar? You cry out to God, but there’s no answer. Day after day, it is the same, and you begin thinking God isn’t paying attention. Sometimes God’s silence can be mistaken for absence, but we are assured he is not absent.

God tells Moses, “I have been watching closely.” This is incredibly encouraging. God wasn’t absent, distracted, or lost track of Israel.

• God saw their suffering when no one else seemed to care.
• God saw the injustice they experienced.
• God saw the tears they cried.
• God saw the years they spent waiting.

Whatever you’re facing today, God sees you, too.

• Your struggle isn’t hidden from him.
• Your prayers haven’t disappeared into the ceiling.
• Your tears aren’t unnoticed.

You see, God says to Moses, “I am indeed concerned about you.” He didn’t simply say he noticed what was happening. He said he was concerned about them. God’s knowledge of our suffering isn’t detached or distant. He cares about what is happening to us.

You don’t have to convince God to care about you. He already does, and his concern causes him to act in perfect timing just like he did for Israel.

The people of Israel had waited a long time, but God hadn’t forgotten. The delay and their suffering didn’t mean God wasn’t working. He was working the entire time. Exodus 3:16 comes just before the Exodus out of Egypt. As moses was talking with God, the people could only see the current circumstances, but God could see the whole picture.

 We often have the same limitation. We see today, but God sees what is coming.

Maybe you’re in a season where you’ve been waiting a long time. Maybe you’ve wondered whether God has heard your prayers or noticed your pain. Exodus 3:16 gives us a simple reminder: God sees. God knows. God cares.

The Israelites had waited for generations, but they had not been forgotten. And neither have you. You may not know what God is doing behind the scenes or when your circumstances will change, but God has not lost sight of you. The God who watched closely over the Israelites is still watching over us today.

You may feel forgotten, but you are never overlooked by God. He sees you. He knows what you’re facing, and he cares.
